Why I like painting cards.

When I saw this post this morning on Facebook I thought this is exactly what I try to get across to people why I like painting cards. When I sit down to paint a birthday card for one of my family members or a get well card for somebody I feel like I'm spending time with them as I do it. I do think of them as I'm choosing the image that I want to paint. I do think of them as I choose the colors I want to put in the card. I do feel like I'm spending time with that person as I create their card. In this day and age when most of the time it's just bills in our mailbox. It's kind of nice to open it up and see a hand addressed envelope knowing that there's going to be a beautiful card inside. The quality of the art, the skill that's required to do it is not important. The fact that you spent time that you thought enough of them to spend your hour or whatever it took for you to make the card really does hit home. Sometimes as I'm sending one of my family members one of my cards. ... I think ... oh they're not gonna be all that impressed with the fact that it's another one of Carla's cards. But I have gone to their houses and seen that they have kept them. They have found them a treasure. That they too felt the love that was in each brushstroke that I used to send off these cards. The other reason I like to paint cards is they are small. And one of my mottos is to "paint small and paint often" until you get the hang of watercolor. So it's a double whammy in that you get to paint a card for your loved one but you also get to practice your skills as a watercolor artist! So as spring arrives and Mother's Day is around the corner and Father's Day around the next corner I hope that you will take the time to get out a small piece of paper and try a watercolor card. Paint on my Sketchy Friends. ! Carla
